An XC file is not a standard image file format. Instead, xc: is a pseudo-format (or canvas specifier) used by ImageMagick to generate a solid-color image on the fly. For example:

There is no actual .xc file — it’s a command-line convention. If you encounter a file literally named something.xc, it’s likely:

• A misnamed file (e.g., typo for .xcf, .xci, etc.),
• A custom/text config file (e.g., Xcode project data, CAD script),
• Or a false extension.
